2019 Interclub Review
Visit by Sherwood, 10 November 2019
Twin Towns Club Banora Snooker hosted Sherwood Services Snooker Club today in the 2nd interclub challenge match between the 2 clubs this year with 10 players on each side. Last time we visited Sherwood and came home with a 18-10 victory, so Sherwood made the drive south to try and get their revenge.
We got off to a very quick start by winning the first 6 matches of the first round before Sherwood recovered by taking 3 of the last 4 frames of the round. This gave Banora a 7-3 lead which they were determined not to give up. The second round followed the same pattern as the previous round with decent breaks by Jimmy (31) and Bob (35) setting up the team for a run of wins in the first 5 frames. Sherwood managed to stop the rot with a couple of frames but it was too little too late as Banora took the round 8-2 for an unassailable 15-5 lead going into the final round of 5 doubles matches. The doubles went down to the last couple of balls in each match but Banora managed to sneak the first four frames before Sherwood got a deserved win on the black in the final frame. In the end, Banora achieved an impressive 19-6 win to finish a great year of Interclub Challenges where we have won 5 of the 6 events we played. Thank you to all 10 of our players for representing the club and playing with great spirit, determination and in a very sporting manner. And a massive thank you to our friends from Sherwood for making the journey to our club and being part of a fantastic day of snooker even though they were on the end of a loss! We will look forward to resuming our interclub challenges in 2020. |
Visit to Ballina, 13 October 2019
Twin Towns Club Banora Snooker travelled south down the highway to Ballina for the first interclub challenge match between the 2 clubs.
All 3 singles rounds were closely contested with only 1 frame needing to go our way in each of the first 2 rounds to even it up. With the scores at 10-6 going into the doubles after 2 rounds, we needed to win all 4 but it wasn’t to be. This meant the extra singles round was academic to the result but it still produced some good competitive snooker. All 8 of our players managed to get at least 1 win from the 4 frames played. We had 2 juniors (Cooper and Christiano) and 2 debutants (Christiano and Brendan), so they will benefit from the experience. Thank you to all the team for representing the club. And a massive thank you to Johnny and his Ballina team for being excellent hosts and putting on a fantastic day of snooker even though we ended up losing! We will look forward to hosting the next match at Banora in 2020. |

Visit by Redcliffe, 24 March 2019
Report
Redcliffe visited for our annual interclub challenge match with a team of 10. Despite the match score, there were many close frames and it was a highly competitive, enjoyable day. Ray Gocke was captain for the day and he managed a very strong line up of players for the 2 rounds of singles and the final round of doubles. High break of the day came in the very first frame as Ray Wilcher recorded a 42 break. Big thank you to Redciffe for making the long trip through and to our players for taking part. |

We had a very competitive match vs Southport which went all the way to the final pink on the last match as Southport fought hard to get the draw. In the end Twin Towns Club Banora won 11-9....but only just. A big thank you to Southport for bringing a team through and we look forward to visiting there next time. Many thanks to all of our players who turned out today and represented our club. |

It was great to welcome the Casino team to our club and, whilst the results mostly went our way this time, both teams had an enjoyable day of snooker. Final Score was 23 - 5. Highlight of the day was a great 40 break by Brian Green.....just ask him about the first red in his break that got him started! Thanks and well done to all the players. |
