Snooker "John Hudson" Doubles
This tournament was played on Sunday 10th February.

Winners were Ryan Cretan & Jimmy Thomson over Dave Dern & Mitch Gorrick by two frames to nil.

A solid potting display by Jimmy in the first frame and a fine break of 43 under pressure by Ryan earned the boys a well deserved win!

Final Results
We had a fantastic day of 6 reds snooker with 12 players all competing for our first ever 6 reds handicap championship.

The group stage saw 3 pools of 4 players playing off in round robin best of 3 matches. Highlights included 2 clearances of 40 and 27 by Jimmy Thomson and great 35 by Ray Wilcher.

6 players progressed to the finals stage with best performers Ryan Cretan and Ray waiting in the qualifying finals. Cooper Thomson beat his Dad Jimmy 2-1 in the prelim final before going down 2-0 to Ryan.

In the other qualifying final, Paul Thomas beat Bryne Smith 2-0 before losing to Ray 2-0.

So that left Ray and Ryan to battle it out in a best of 5 final. With Ryan 2-1 up, Ray knocked in another 35 to take frame 4 and that gave him the momentum as he comfortably won the final frame.

Great day and big thank you to all the players and helpers for supporting our first ever 6 Reds.

The Rules of Cricket
We ran our first ever Cricket Club Championship today.

9 players entered and were split into 3 groups of 3 players for round robin matches. Each match consisted of 2 innings. And both players took it turn to either bat (pot colours to get runs) or bowl (pot reds to get wickets).

The top 2 from each group progressed to the finals where they had prelim finals and qualifying finals to win to get through to the grand final.

Every innings and match was played in quick time and the 30 minute game clock on the TV Screens rarely came into consideration although it did put some pressure on as the seconds and minutes ticked by.

The qualifying finals saw Dave Dern beat Ryan Cretan in match 1 and Jimmy Thomson beat Brian Green with 2 tremendous reds to snatch a win that hadn’t looked likely.

In the final Jimmy was put into bat and managed a decent 106 total. In the 2nd innings he tied up the colours making it hard for Dave to score heavily and Jimmy bowled him out for 56 to take the title.

Well done to all players for being part of this event and, with a few improvements to the rules, we will look forward to running this again in 2020.
